Another day

It has been over a week now sience Jack was killed and dailey it seems to be a little less stressful. Plans are going into effect to install some form of invisibe fence. I just have to check out the costs and see if it is humane. I am sure that it is but when you balance out the outcome...
Next week is the surgery day, all the kittens are getting fixed. This will be quite the experience getting 8 kittens to the vet at once.

The dogs are next....

Goodbye Jack

I pray to God that this will be the last goodbye for a while because I can not mentally take it. Last night our beloved Jack was killed when he was hit by a truck in front of our house while we were working with our horses. For the past year I have been attempting to keep Jack, as well as his sister and brother in a large kennel that consists of basically an acre of land, and a huge enclousure as shelter. No matter what we did, Jack always would get out. Attempts were made to train them to stay away from the road but it is to late.
I fell like a failure in some ways. We do our best to provide a safe and loving home for these animals and something like this happens. I find myself asking what did "I" do wrong. I came to work today with a broken heart and continue to replay the events in my head. I think about the accident as well as my lovely wife strokeing jacks head asking him to go to a better place as he died. Family and friends helped up with preparing a resting place for Jack. I just pray that God works through this tragedy.

Great sadness...

It is with a great sadness that we had to say goodbye to one of our horses this evening. Sammy was a rescue that came to us from a very bad situation and for the past five months we have done our best to make him as loved and needed as possible. He had no majior ailments, just a few foot problems that I learned to take care of. This morning as I was leaving for work I noticed Sammy laying on the ground near the barn. For over three hours I did my best to get him on his feet but he just didn't have the strength. His body was over 26 years and wanted to leave. At 5:30 this evening he crossed over to the other side by the aid of a vet. His seven horse friends at his side were with him during his passing. I love the work we do but nothing is harder then to say goodbye to a friend. See you soon Sammy :(
