HarleyIII

As of this evening Harley is doing better. We have been bounceing back and forth with taking him to the vet but that costs money and ....
We did get a $50 donation today so we make the choice of taking him to the vet and use the donation for that or buy $50 worth of horse, dog, cat and goat food.

All is good....

harley part II

Got a call from my wife this evening to let me know that Harley seems to be in some pain. His ear is swelled and he tends to shake his head to release the drainage but in doing so, he gets hurt. When I get home from work this evening I am going to try to get him some medication to bring down the swelling and ease the pain. I am sure he'll be ok but it will be some time before he is back to himself. He seems to be latharghic and retreats to his dog house when we come near.
besides all this, all is well...

Harley....

It's times like this that I wish I went to vet school. We have a blind pit bull named Harley that is 100 % blind. He is a great dog and very loving. He has a a few run ins with the other dogs that have ended in some serious bites, one in my knee. He has his own kennel which is a huge area in the barn that is completely secure from the other dogs with his own personal outside kennel. We came very close to loseing Harley last night. I went out to feed all the animals and when I got out there the other dogs were just mauling Harley to the ground. He lost allot of blood and most of his right ear was torn up. Why were the other dogs out? Trust me, they have a quater acre, fenced in with a large room inside the barn and they have ripped through the metal fence to get out. We get them in and they get out. (Harley is seperate from the other dogs) As of this evening Harley is doing better. I was able to control the bleeding from his ears and tend to his lacerations but I think he is going to pull through. This has opened a whole new world to the sanctuary. We are rescueing animals from our animals. We'll keep you updated on Harleys condition.

More Posts...

We'll now be able to get some more posts out on a regular basis. We moved our computer from the sun room that usually is 20 degress on a daily basis up to our new office where it is just a tad bit warmer. It is so hard to sit in a room that when you breath you can see your own breath emonating. All is good here. We just had 60 bails of hay delived for the horses and goats. We have just had snow dumped on us on a regular basis so the horses struggle to eat from the land.
Plans are being put into motion for a warming hut to be built for the horses this spring. I will attempt to build this myself but will probably get some assistence due to I have no idea what or how to do it.

In Need...

I don't think Last Roads has ever really asked for donations in the past and I really hate to begin now but the time has come when we are in need of some things. Last Roads is not 501-c-3, don't know if we will ever be one. I have the 33 page application and it reads like a rocket science text book. We do what we can to rescue animals in need and adopt out as we can.
What we need right now, financial donations, hay and straw, blankets and most of all, heaters for water buckets. They can be the dog water bowls with built in heaters or the heaters for live stock buckets. We are in the middle of our winter season and there is nothing more fun then coming home from work and carrying 6 gal pails of water back and forth for the horses and goats. Gift cards to Pet Smart work great as well.
Besides all this, all is great. Colder then any temp. were used to and were from Detroit. :)
